Starcom’s Take: Instagram is one of the largest mobile ad platforms, with more than 400M users. The ads that now appear will be the best ads suited to the users interests. This allows for engagement with the consumers and can send people to the important parts of a Brands website.

2. Snapchat letting brands take over Sponsored Lenses via new ad unit

Starcom’s Take: Snapchat has 100 million active users today. Snapchat is a must for young users to share what they are doing with their friends. Geo-filters and lenses are so new, there are lots of opportunities for businesses to reach their target market.

3. Twitter Is Improving 4 Features to Make Tweeting Easier and More Efficient

Starcom’s Take: Twitter celebrated it’s 10th birthday this year with its user growth and retention coming to a plateau. Twitter needs to do a lot more than adding a few more characters to turn around their poor progress and penetration in the social media market.

4. Google reports trillions of mobile searches per year, adds more location-based features to AdWords

Starcom’s Take: Google are continuously looking at the growth of usage on mobile devices and ways to improve advertisers’ ability to adapt to these behaviours. These important changes will drive more online traffic from Maps to local businesses.

5. Google Debuts Gboard To Aid Search, Send

Starcom’s Take: 2016 is the year of the GIFs and Google are looking to capitalise on this. GIFs have become a form of communication, especially in the younger demographic. Facebook introduced GIFs into Messenger last year and has seen huge interaction with the feature. This new feature can only be used on Google products through iPhones.
